Replacement Speakers for '05 Pathy

I have a '05 Pathy with the Bose system. I want to improve the sound without replacing the whole system.

I went to a few sound shops, Best Buy, Car Toys, and Mobile One, and two of the three claim that I can't just change out the speakers with new ones. They claim that I need to install an amp bypass because of the difference in impedance of the factory Bose speakers probably being 2 ohm and the new speakers being 4 ohm. I am thinking about replacing both the front and back with either Infinity's or Alpines?

In addition, one shop said that the fronts were actually 6X9 components that are tied together with the tweeters in the dash.

Has anyone changed out their speakers?

If so, what did you go with and what are your thoughts on this bypass issue?

Can I just pull my old ones and drop in new ones?

Thanks in advance.

unfortunately I too have had bose systems in my cars. one in my 01 path and one in my '93 Legend. the legend had the same ohmage issue but i've heard (in the legend forum) that you can simply replace the speakers but that they'll be a bit quiet.

i'm not expert though

you may want to try and give crutchfield a call and discuss it with them, they can be very helpful.

Did you do a drop in replacement or bypass the amp?

I read some old threads where you were thinking about changing out the tweeters as well.

Did you ever change them out?

Based on the speakers that you bought, the 6X9's have a tweeter in them. Is the sound now too brisk when combined with the dash tweeters?

Thanks

I just replaced the front and rear large speakers only... I have not replaced the tweeters or sub yet... The sound was much better and had more bass... I think the high end could be improved........... Triffid
