Engine getting worse

I don't know if you remebr my other post a while back, it was about my engine revving itself while in park.

It's a 1988 Pathfinder 3.0L with about 110k miles...Well the past couple days, i've noticed, its changed from revving from 2000 down to 1500 and repeating, now it's revving from 2000 down to 1800 in a very fast paced rythem. almost as if im doing it myself, only perfectly.

It only has this problem when in park, no other time does the engine ever sound like its having a problem - I'm thinking about taking it to my mechanic - but i wanted to see if i could get some opinions of what in the world this would be from. It shakes my whole car while im sitting there, like the engine is being thrown around, this sucks so hard.

Any feedback at all, even someone telling me to ditch the old thing... lol, Man i want a new car so badly...

Hello there, Sorry to here about your Pathy. My Brother had an 88'.It had unknown mileage and ran just as good as my 95'..But, anyways, I'm not sure what responses you previously got, but a faulty Throttle Postion Sensor will act this way.?.Maybe excess fuel pressure?..Even a more obvious vaccum leak..I'd recomend going over the engine with a fine toothed comb as they say. Hope you get it running.
Peace

my 87 3.0 started doing the same thing after I pulled and replaced the motor..i have no idea what it is, im thinking alng the lines of what 95'BlackP-Finder said...what i do know is it goes away if i remove the battery cable for awhile and let the computer reset...i guess it could be a computer issue, since it never did it at all before i pulled the motor and replaced all the bad oil seals....

well i noticed today some little drops of oil in the driveway, i checkt my oil and it was just towards the low half... but the dipstick is such a joke to read, after i filled it - i couldnt tell where the oil was, the dipstick would just be kinda covered all over and splotchy?...

bahh, im not due for an oil change for about another month - but now i have a few drops on the driveway and an engine that sounds like garbage in park... wish i knew more about my pathy's engine.

So you're saying you reset your computer and it fixed the problem? or you just disconnected the battery... because i've had my battery disconnected dozens of times for long lengths of times doing electrical work - so I don't think that will do anything to your computer.

Is there something significantly different that goes on in the engine compartment while the car is in Park rather than in Drive?

If there's an Idle Control Motor on the car, the rapid changing of the idle like that could be that part. On a Cadillac, that's the cause - don't know if the Path has one or not.
