cant adjust torsion bars - Nissan Forum

cant adjust torsion bars

i have really become annoyed with vehicles that use torsion bars instead of good old springs, my pathfinders front end is now sitting in the ground practicly becasuse the torsion bars slipped completely out of adjustment, i brought it to a local big name garage to have a front end alignment done becuz i heard they readjust them during it, they basiclly told me i need new torsion bars struts, springs(what, are they fucking stupid?) and so on, way too much money, they tired adjusting it back to normal height, the bolts were to their max and its still in the dirt, was wondering if anyone else has had this problem, and do i junk this pos now or later?

While I don't share you're passionate dislike for torsion bars (mine have yet to give me cause), I am certainly also more familiar with the standard coil spring/shock set-up.

By what you describe, if there is nothing else that has broken or failed, I would guess that your torsion bars are done. I have read a fair amount of posts about torsion bars on this and other forums. I suggest you do a search for the topic and see what you find. I can guarantee you that you are not the first person to have an issue with this.

i believe the torsion bars slipped, inside of the adjusters, by luck one of my friends has dealt with this problem, thare are teeth like a gear on the bar and inside of the adjuster, basiclly i guess i have to take off the C clip and move the adjuster down then re-install it, which i heard is a unpleasant exprience, hopefully i can save myself 1000 bucks or so i asked this question b4, and im suprised no one on this forum knew that little tid bit of info

Well, good luck with the fix. Hopefully the whole thing just jumped the splines, and nothing actually got stripped. Again, I've never had to deal with mine. I've just played with the coils and leaf springs on my Chevy...

Yes, it appears i hit a rock and tore the front of the torsion bar out of the A arm and it stripped the splines badly, any need a parts vehicle for cheap? 500 dollars
