Pinging in 97 Pathy w/ no OBDII codes

Hi, I've got pinging under load in my 97 pathy SE. I have ab OBDII tool and I didn't pull any codes. About a month ago it set an EVAP code, but after I cleared it it hasn't been back. I bumped up to mid-grade fuel and that helps some, but it still pings a little. Any idea on what the problem may be? My next tank of gas will be premium until I get this figured out...

What was the fix for the EVAP code??

You might want to check the timing. How bad is it, is it just under heavy acceleration or up hill? If it's infrequent and only under those conditions its normal according to Nissan.
