the hubs wont engage or the t/case wont engage. if its the hubs, you can pull them apart and rebuild them with new springs and clean them up then add new grease. or you can replace them with manual hubs. you can test the hubs by turning the axle shaft to each wheel, it may take a couple of turns to lock them in. to test the t/case put it in 4wd hi or low and turn the frt driveline from the t/case if it locks the t/case should be fine, go to the axle shafts and turn them to see if they spin opposite this will tell you if your frt diff is ok or not.
