Replacing Alternator on 93 Pathy....

I want to replace the alternator on my 93 Pathy. The dealer quoted me $290. I did find some rebuilt ones for around 180 - 200 on the web. Do u think the remanufactured ones are reliable or is it a better option to go with the original ones.
Also can someone tell me where is the fuel filter.....i think i know just want to make sure......

I believe my '92 is the same as your '93 - - so the fuel filter is located under the hood, along the inner fender on passenger side of the vehicle - fairly close to the firewall. It is about 3" in diameter and 4" long mounted in a bracket. It has a rubber fuel line running from the top and bottom. Easy to get to and easy to replace.

As for the alternator, I had ours rebuilt at a local battery/alternator/starter shop a few years back. It ran for about a week, and then crapped again. According to the shop, our battery was quite bad and was causing the alternator to work extra hard. So, I replaced the battery and had the alternator rebuilt (under warranty) and all has been good with it since then. I would say there is no problem with rebuilt stuff, as long as it's been well done (you don't really know that), and it comes with a good warranty.

Are you planning to do the removal and replacement yourself? If so, it's pretty straight forward. You'll have to access it from underneath (you'll have to remove the front skid plate). Then you can reach up in there. It is tight, but it works. The one thing I found was that the pivot bolt is difficult to remove and replace - very little space to move a wrench back an forth - little at a time. Also, replacing the bolt can be tricky because it has thread right to the end, with very little taper on it. The bolt does not "guide" itself in very easily. But if you're patient, it'll all go.

Have fun!!!

Also important is taking as much pressure out of the fuel line as possible, before disconecting the filter. Pull the fuse for the fuel pump. Run the engine till it crapps out (if it even starts) then turn it over a few times. It will still leak everywhere, but at least it wont shoot out like a super soaker.
