Transmission change problem

Hi All,
Any help I can get would be happily accepted, I am in the middle of a transmission change on a '91 SE-V6,4x4, w/ automatic transmission, all has gone reasonabley well (considering it's a bit of a pain), however, I am now at the point of unbolting the torque converter and cannot gain access to the bolts, I removed the lower dust coverand it seems that there is another cover that goes around the whole bell housing, it seems that I may have to remove all the mounting bolts and shift the cover to gain access to the torque converter bolts, this does not make sense to me, I am hoping there is another means of accessing these bolts that I am just simply not aware of. If any one can help me out w/ some info I am sure it will save me hours and aggrivation.
Thanks Alot!! Bill F.

That's a two-man job. Have a friend hold the crank with a 27mm socket and ratchet while you acess the bolts through the starter hole. It's tough but doable. You could also use a pair of vise grips on the flexplate to hold it in place. Or a v-belt pulley wrench on the crank pulley.
