I took the factory bose system out of my 2002 Pathfinder and would like to sell all of it. That is the head unit, front door speakers, the rear door speakers, and the rear amplifier. The head unit is a the 6 disc cd changer, the cd player works when the outside temperature is warm but skips when it is a cold. So the head unit is not worth much and I would throw it in for free to the person who buys the other parts.
I have a 2001 Pathfinder and with the OEM radio + CD changer two units, CD is CE-018
PN-2302N and Radio is PN-1665K.. I am not sure if in the 2002 the Bose system is the
same...if it is ,would you be interested in selling the 6 CD changer only?, mine skips and
sends "error messages", there is a repair outfit on Ebay but they want $160 plus my trade in ....kind of expensive, my car has only 38K miles, CD has played perhaps 30 CD's..
I guess its a typical defect of the unit...
The CD changer is not worth anything. It is the Speakers and Amps that have value. Trust me you don't want the CD Changer, they ALWAYS break. That is why I removed everything.
Soho, I also have a 2002 Pathfinder with exactly the same problem. CD changer skips when its cold. I removed it and and put in a new headunit with an adapter to hook into the Bose amp. ..but not too happy with the sound quality. Next step is to replace the speakers with a new amp. My question is how easy was it for you? Did you use the existing wiring, bypassing the amps at the speakers or just run all new wires. I'm thinking that running new wires to the tweeter above the dash will be pretty difficult. Also, do you know how much depth there is for the 6.5 speakers in the doors?
I put new 61/2" speakers in all four doors and there was plenty of room. I am not sure what the depth is, but the door panels are easy to remove.
Here is how I did the whole system.
I ran the amp power wire through the firewall at the rubber grommet behind the heater fan motor and then down the passenger side to the rear cargo area.
I ran a new turn on wire and two new sets of speaker wires along with the rca cables for the amp down the drivers side.
I put the amp in the rear cargo area where the donut spare normally goes.
I tied into the front speaker wires behind the headunit. I was told feeding the new wires through the door is very difficult. I tied into the rear speaker wires @ the old amp harness. I am not sure about the front tweeters, the system sounds so much better I didn't even bother with them.
I is an unbelivable diffrence. Sounds 50 times better. I have ipod in the center console controlled by the head unit. XM (Unmodluated) controlled by the headunit, and my parrot carkit is able to mute the radio and sound comes through the front speakers.
Thanks for the info. Can you say again how you did the front speakers? How did you bypass the factory amp while using the existing wires? or are you still using the factory amp? I'd like to replace the front speakers, reuse the existing +/- wiring at the doors, and then power them from the new amp connecting at the harness behind the headunit, if that is possible. I hope I can bypass the factory amps which I was told are at each speaker in the door...if thats true.
The Front Speakers have the amps built in to them, so when you remove the speaker you remove the amp and then you just splice new speaker wire. In the door the harness has the turn on for the amp the power for the amp etc.. I forgot what color, but if you order from or call crutchfield they will tell you what color the wires are that you splice into. The way you described is the way that I did it.
Depending on where you put the new amp, it will probably be easiest to connect to the rear speakers in the back where the amp is in the rear panel under the window on the drivers side. If you look through the louvers in the cargo area you can see the bose amp for the rear speakers there.
The CD changer is not worth anything. It is the Speakers and Amps that have value. Trust me you don't want the CD Changer, they ALWAYS break. That is why I removed everything.
The CD changer goes for about $250 on e-bay...and forget about getting it from Dealer.
I know that those Bose (Clarion ) OE units are crap...but are you saying this to the person who asked to buy just the CD changer because you don't want to break up your set(because you won't get as much $$$$)????
I don't want to sell someone something, I knows doesn't work properly. I my opinion the Headunit (Radio, CD Player) is not worth much of anything. I would need to be sent for repairs and that would probably cost $100+.
My thought is that the front speakers are worth $100 or so each. The dealer wants $350 for them. The rear speakers are just typical 61/2" speakers again not worth much of anything, and the headunit if free to the whoever buys the front speakers.
If someone wants to pay me for the Headunit, I am not opposed to selling it as long as they understand what they are getting.
