I wanna know...Something!

All I want to know is why my Odometer works fine in cold temperatures such as this morning in eastern, Ky. the tmeperature was like 35.. It worked my whole way to school. Put 12 miles on the Odometer. When Temperatures are warm, lets say 45 or higher, it will only work for a mile or so..This happens every time..???..I'm just confused? Peace.

check the speed sensor on the tranny, it sounds like something inside is breaking contact when it gets warm. use a multimeter to see if it is open/shorted when it gets warm.

Sound like sloppy gear in the speedo (manual?) It shrinks and tightens up when cold. Maybe the speedo was tampered with? Did you buy it used with extreemly low milage?

my 87 did that when i first got it, only it wasnt caused by temp....sometimes the odometer would turn sometimes it wouldnt, and the speedo was fine....then it all gave up at once....when i pulled the cluster apart i fixed the speedo by replacing the small plastic piece on the end of the cable, after that i noticed that the odometer had a small crack on the piece that holds the gears in, the gears were barely touching and would make contact sometimes, and sometimes it wouldnt....this probably isnt your problem, but you might look if you pull it apart again....

I'm thinking of going to my local salvage yard and just buying the whole guage cluster out of another Pathfinder..I don't really care about the mileage as long as it's in the same range..Would this be advisable?

if you do, try to find one in a pull-a-part yard, i did that and tore it all down inside the junker, and just bought the speedo part, i walked out with it and a sunroof cover for 7 bucks!!! plus that leaves the other guages there for someone else who may need a fuel guage or something....my problem was finding a cluster exactly like mine, with the extra fuel guage for more accurate 1/4-empty readings..plus all the ones i found had the automatic shift pattern lights, i have a standard and have no use for those...other salvage yards MAY sell just the speedo, but i would think they would want to sell the whole unit.... point is, pay close attention to detail when looking so you dont get the wrong set...

Yes thats what i was thiking about..Mine has the standard guage cluster too..It doesn't have the shift pattern lights on the cluster, just fuel, temp, tach, speedo and clock.
