Nissan Pathfinder 98, stalls and turns off.

These past 2-3 days my car has been acting up. It stalls and then it just dies. i turn on the car and the RPM go from 1000 to 500. then the needle goes up to 600-700 and then back down to 200, the whole car trembles and shakes, goes back to 600 and then just dies.

This happens when the car is parked, or im waiting on a traffic light, the car just turns off on its own. When i drive, its smooth but sometimes i hit the gas and the car starts puttering like its ready to turn off, i keep my foot on the gas and the puttering goes away.

anyone has any suggestions? i dont see any leaks or anything loose under the hood.

I took it to the mechanic and he said that it might be bad gasoline? i used some of that antifreeze fluid for the gas tank but my car still is acting up. Please help me out as i need the car for work.

Well i went to another mechanic and just got back. he check it with his computer and the thing came up with the following error code.

is this what might cause what i said above? this part costs $500 on the dealer and about $390 on the internet. so i want to be sure that if i buy this, the issue will be fixed.

Yeah, it's a good posibility that there's the problem. MAF sensor basically measures the amount of airflow entering the engine. If it's not sensing airflow properly, it'd make the engine run rough.

If you still feel doubt, take it to another mechanic or that store... what's it called... Autozone?

no its another local mechanic. He told me that he can get the part, but should i trust him? he said he can get it for about $200-$300 but it would be a used refurbish/restored MAF. then again i need my car fixed for tuesday for work.

How long has this shop been in business? If it's been around for a while, I'd trust them.

Call one of those places that keeps tabs on public complaints about customer services and practices. In Canada it's called the Better Business Bureau. If they have lots of complaints bout that shop, take it to another.

Next best shop would probably be a dealer.

Hope you get it fixed soon!

It is a good possibility. I would check vacuum hose connections as another possible culprit. As for the MAF price, call around.
