How do you decipher, by reading the VIN, if the model is American or Canadian?

I was thinking of buying a used 06 Pathfinder at a dealer but he later told me the used ones are American models. I want to get the SE Premium package with airbag package but the US models don't come with side curtain airbags.

1st digit is where the vehicle was built. 1 and 4 is in US, 2 is Canada, 3 is Mexico, J is Japan, not sure of 5, it may be Canada also.

1,4,& 5 are US region and I believe the 11th character of 'C' indicates the Canton, Mississippi plant.
