Remote start problem - starter engaging with key set to "on"

Hopefully someone can help me out here. I'm installing a remote start in an 01 QX4, and now when the key is turned to on, the starter engages and cranks until I turn the key back off.

I tested the remote start, and it appears that the unit is putting out 12v constant across the starter. Anyone have any experience with these or can offer any advice?

Thanks!

I've installed a number of remote starters in my time.

The first question is have you ever done this before ?

DO NOT USE A TEST LIGHT for checking for voltage USE A MULTIMETER.

Where are you checking for this constant 12v ?

I have installed a remote start before, and am using a multimeter. It appears that there might be a problem with the rs unit. It is putting constant voltage across the starter wires(green and purple from the rs). I'm thinking it may be a bad relay pack.

Not sure which rs you have so the green and purple wires mean nothing to me.

I'm guessing when the key is turned to the " ON " position your getting 12v on the black / yellow ( starter ) and / or red / black ( starter 2 ) wires in the ignition switch harness

.
Are these relays four terminal ( 85 , 86, 30 , 87 ) or five terminal ( 85 , 86 , 30 , 87 , 87A ) ?

Is this 12v showing when you have started the vehicle with the remote then inserted the the key turned to " ON " to turn off the rs and have the vehicle running ?

Do you also have an extra relay installed for a " starter disable " feature ?

You've got the wrong wire off the ignition switch.

Have the right wires, its definately a relay problem. I swapped out the relay pack with one from my wife's car and the problem was solved. The relay for the starter must be "stuck".
