Removing roof rack

Searched but didn't find anything.

I want to take off the rack to see if it'll improve my mileage. I barely ever use the racks, so the half hour it would take putting them back on is fine if it does in fact save me money at the pumps.

But I can't get the damn things off. I can tighten them and loosen them, but not get them off. Is there a trick? Can someone tell me how to get the damn things off?

Thanks!

Ever figure out how to take the roof-rack off. i'd like to take mine off as well, or at least, take the crossbars out. my haynes manual doesn't even mention it.

well i just took out the cross bars, that was pretty easy. there are two rail cap/ends at the far end of the truck, just above the lift gate. they're held in by one small 'star' bolt each. just pulled them out, loosened up the cross bars and slid them back and out. then i reinstalled the rear end-caps. looks much better now and may be a bit quieter, and maybe even slightly more fuel efficient. and it shouldn't take more than 10 minutes to throw them back on should i need 'em for something.

You might start by stating what year Pathfinder we're talking about here.
