damn dash

I have a 2002 pathfinder which I love but I hate my dash lights. For some reason the left side speedo gauge doesn't light up. however the tach on the right side lights up. sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Any ideas what this could be? switch? dimmer? or do I have to take the dash apart and trace the lights?

Any ideas?

you need to remove the frame by removing 2 screws at top of outer dash. after removing frame, there will be 4 screws more to remove cluster. than when you check the bulbs at back of cluster you can find some bulbs are burnt. if you can find the correct wattege bulb you can get the original illumination level. i hardly found mine to replace. they allways sell low wattege bulbs as 1.2 watts. but if i remember correct we need 3 watts.

I don't think its the bulbs because it works sometimes and then it doesn't and then it works again. It's started to work less and less all the time now. It use to stop working and then the next time i started the truck it was fine for months but now it seems to quit every other day. It is getting so annoying.

I have an 02 that has the same problem. I don't do my own work so I took it to the dealer who for $35 found the problem and took care of it. They said it was a loose plug. It corrected the problem for about a year but now it's back again. I think it's an easy fix if you have the tools and the confidence.
