If you have an automatic, it'll just spin the torque converter. Remove the top starter bolt through the fenderwell. I use a v-belt pulley wrench to hold the crank while loosening the crank bolt. Or you could just wedge a long breaker bar in there against the frame with a socket on the bolt and bump the starter...
