I have a '05 Pathfinder LE 4x2. It sounds like a metal on metal rattling noise coming from the undercariage. You can hear it from inside/outside of the vehicle even with the windows up. Mainly hitting bumps any speed but only happens after the vehicle has warmed up. The noise can be duplicated if I bump the fuel tank from under with my hand. I thought it might be the heat shield.
I've been to the dealership six times and each time it is different, from the license plate to they can't duplicate it and finally the fuel pump. They have replaced it twice and im going in for a third. They say they have fixed the problem with others but it is hit or miss with the pump replacement, you never know which will fit just right. They said there is a problem with some changes nissan made with the pump.
Has anyone encountered this or have any idea what it could be, I may not be an expert but the fuel pump hit or miss just does not sound right.
The fuel pump has a TSB for causing a squeak and to replace it. It seems weird that it's still doing it after replacement. Could the noise actually be coming from something inside the truck? Maybe a piece of trim in the back?

Don't know if this will help, but I'll throw it out there anyway.
I had a rattle/buzz kinda like that... but was out in the engine compartment.
You say that you can reproduce it by bumping the fuel tank, so I'm not sure this will help.
I found an A/C line ground clip vibrating against the firewall. Would only happen after warm up, and 3k - 4k RPM.
The clip is on the A/C low pressure line, up against the firewall, near the top, on the drivers side, just below the hood line. All I had to do is turn the clip so that the ends were no longer close to the firewall. Problem solved. Nissan has a service bulletin on this. Seems to be complaint that spans multiple Nissan vehicles, and multiple years.
Anyhow, my 05 Pathfinder is nice and quite now. No complaints of any other rattles or buzzes, or clicks... nothing. Wonderful ride
I had the same problem. The return lines for the rear air conditioner condensor run under the body. There is an exhaust heatshield right above the axle assembly that was touching the lines (it is visually obvious).
I could duplicate it by slamming down the rear seat but only for a couple of minutes after I turned off the truck. I guess the lines cooled off enought to move them from the heat shield after that.

Just bend the shield out of the way.......
is there any possible way you can take a picture of what your talking about because i have no clue and this rattle is driving me crazy.
Calimoxo2 - you sound like you may have the solution to my rattle as well...can you be more specific, and or get some pics? above the rear axle? how do you get in there to bend the shield, is there direct access or did you need to remove anything? Thanks! dealer is 0-3 on finding it
Thanks-
i did crawl under there a few days ago and saw what you were speaking of, i pulled the shield away from the lines, however, i havent had much time behind the wheel to determine if it resolved my problem.
Now that I eliminated the AC line noise I now notice the fuel tank noise...... If you hit the bottom of the tank with your fist you can hear a similar annoying squeak..there is a TSB for the tank noise so Iguess it goes to the dealer after all.... oh well...
great maybe i am a retard but i did not find "2" AC lines touching any metal... i did not even see what could be an AC line...any other pointers to the picture??
There is a little pop off panel behind the second seat row, passenger side. It is an access panel to the AC lines. If you look under the truck where the panel is, you should see the tubes.
