dust cover over bushings

Ok, so when i was changing my tires the other day i decided it would be a good idea to go ahead and grease em up at the same time. On all my other cars i was able to see the grease overflow, thus telling me to stop, but on my 95 Pathy, i kept pumping and the dust cover popped, causing the grease to leak out (front, driver side tire, above the rotors). My question is..how important is it for me to obtain a new dust cover??

Are you reffering to the rubber boots which keeps the grease in and the dirt out?

In my opinion, if you go offroad, then it would be better to have it on. I do check all my rubber boots everytime I have a change oil and greasing. If I see a boken one, I replace it asap.
