I'm planning to add an aftermarket overhead dvd w/ built in dome lights to an 01 qx4 but am unsure about the wiring. The dvd player has wires for 12v memory, 12v ignition, dome light door(2 for this) and ground. After removing the dome light, there is a harness w/ 2 wires(12v constant and door?).
Will I need to run new wiring for the dvd player? Or can it be done with whats there?
you will need to run wiring, 12v for memory is a hot source that has constant feed for the memory, i.e. like the clock, 12v for the ignition is any switched 12v source.

one of the wires in the dome light harness must be constant, so I need to run a wire for ignition. What about the door + and -? Where would those run from?
Wouldn't one of the two be constant? If the switch is turned to on, then the lights will stay on with doors closed and car off. Perhaps one constant and other wired to the door, and then ground is to the frame?
Overhead dvd is new to me. I'm used to stereo installs where wires are available for everything!
you're right, I'm thinking of reg. dome lamps without the on/off/door switch, just find out what amps are pulled by the dvd (I sure not much) so you dont overload that circuit and blow the fuse constantly, I put in a terminal block in the engine compartment for accessories like this, older chevy trucks had them right by the brake booster, its a hot source you can fuse and makes installing items alot easier and cleaner too.
