'87 Pathfinder, AC cuts in and out...

Hi All... I'm new to the forums as I just picked up my first Pathfinder... an '87.
I've noticed driving it on the highway, or surface streets, sometime the AC quits for a bit... blower motor is running normally, but the air coming out gets warm... after anywhere from 30 seconds to a couple of minutes, it gets ice cold again... Thinking maybe it's low on freon?
Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks!

Ron

Likely your freon is low, I would check freon pressure first.

Next I would test the A/C relay. (Since you say the time varies in how long the compressor is off, you may look into wiring checking for lose, damaged, grounded wires)

Beyond that I think you may have to get into the "wet" part of the system (lines, coils, drier, expansion valve, compressor).

online pricing: relay 22.00 - a/c drier 38.00 - expansion valve 31.00 - compressor 260.00

Honestly it's much simpler to take this problem to the shop and have a pro take a peek at it... which you will likely do for freon anyway... unless you are converted to R134a.
