I had a torque converter problem and a front seal leak on the automatic tranny and took the 95 Pathfinder to a tranny shop and they fixed it. After this, I drive the car for half an hour, it;s fine and all of a suden, when I start from a traffic light, it starts in the second gear, the car barely moves, even if I floor it. I put the car in Park, in Reverse and in drive and still the same thing. I stop the engine, start it and it's fine.
Any ideas?
About 1.5 years ago I had the filter changed.
The fluid cannot be low, because the tranny guy filled up after he was done.
The converter is a rebuilt one, the catalytic converter had to be changed because it was worn off, bad, warped etc.
I don't know what a converter locker is.
The guy says he is not getting any codes from the tranny just code 55 which means "no problem"
Of course when he drives it, it's fine, when I drive at 5:00 pm and it's really hot outside, it does this after half an hour of driving.
same problem here.... mine "seems" to start out in a low 1st gear and wont get out of it...
when it first started, i wasnt able to simpy shut the vehicle down to "reset" it... but that
works now....
a nationally recognised tranny shop did a rebuilt that did'nt fix the problem...
and they have claimed to have done some other stuff to it since.... see below :-)
We should probably come up with the names of all the idiots and mentally challenged that call themselves tranny shops, national chain shops and bull**** like that throughout US and Canada.
They jump to rebuild the tranny and after that it if it still does not work, they throw their hands in the air.
Turning the ignition off for 2 seconds will reset the TCU and take it out of "safe mode". If it's going into "safe mode" by itself, you have internal mechanical problems. The torque converter doesn't usually just fail by itself, it generally takes the rest of the transmission with it...from what I've seen, at least.

amen buba... right on the MARK!
i have a freelance mechanic looking and testing it now... he mentioned the
temp sensor for the tranny fluid, and he seemed to understand when i mentioned
the revolution sensor... im hoping he comes up with the answer.
i trust that my nationally recognised tranny shop wont consider the rev sensor
as that means they will have to drop the tranny to replace.
the company has been willing to do, but when i can afford the time for them to have the vehicle for a week or better to 'look at it' ... they cant seem to actually 'do' anything.
i have given up on them, dealing with them only pisses me off and costs me more
money... i have since started a hate camaign against them for charging me $2500
for a misdiagnosed sensor problem, in the name of a 'professionally rebuilt transmission'
after the rebuild didnt work they told me that "maybe i just have to live with it [the problem]"
they said THAT to the wrong person ....

Like they screwed you over, why don't you do the same thing: Call your credit card company and dispute the charge. Or take them into a small claims court.
I know some tranny shops offer nation wide warranty. If the car does not work after the rebuild, you should keep going back to them. And if they say thay don't know, you tell them you would go to another shop that will fix it and then charge them back.
And to answer the guy that answered me, the converter got replaced and the tranny does the limping mode after the converter got replaced. I am sorry, you tell me I have mechanical problems? Why don't you take a hike to a Chrisler forum, you sound like a dealer.

well, ive been going back for two years, they claim to replace things like the TPS, the ECM,
speed sensor, valve body and the likes... other times they have had it for a week or better and have done nothing
all the while that cost me extra to fuel my 71 chevy to drive daily...
my keeping going back has ended ... as they continue to piss me off, and it costs me money.
i think the only reason they havent mentioned the revolution sensor is that they would have to drop the tranny again to get to it, same for the temp sensor, i think.
at this point, i am screwing them over, ive got banners scattered on vehicles about the county, and i even made a shirt for myself... if i had my way, i would spend $10000
on my hate campaign, in spite of the $2500 they screwed me out of.

so i left the pathfinder with a backyard mechanic for a couple of days
(on one referral that :this guy is the best!")
he called me up while driving it asking me when it normally acts up, i replied "when it wants"....
after chatting for a few minutes, he said "it just threw me a code"
Revolution Sensor... failure or bad circuit.
He explained to me that most of these "professional" wankers dont know
how to put the vehicle in to 'diagnostic mode'...
he's going to do some more probing tonight and i'll hear from him tomorrow

Yep, there's a procedure to get the TCU to read off specific error codes if there are any stored. Was the "Power" light on the dash flashing 16 times every time you started it?
On another note, I bet they forgot to plug it back in or something stupid...
