No problems with my 5 speed at 82K. The stick shift is relatively rare.
2001 was the first year for the new engine. Look for a history or replacing ignition coils & sensors. Look at tire wear. Tires need to be road force balanced on a Hunter GSP machine or you WILL have vibrations at highway speeds. No other real issues to speak of, IMO.
Other than that, the usual maintenace items-- shocks/struts, belts, hoses, fluids, corrosion, etc...
The current tires are at about 75% of their lifespan, but show no signs of camber wear, I was gonna just use them up for this year then throw some good winter rubber on.
I dont know much about wheel balancing machines, I'm assuming I can find one of these at the nissan dealership?
I have had no issues with the tranny. However, there is a throw out bearing in the clutch that can go bad. This is a common issue from what I have found. It went bad on mine. As far as I know, it doesn't really affect the clutch, it just makes a terrible noise. The clutch needs to be pulled to replace the bearing. It worked well for me as mine was under warranty when it went, aroun 100k. This resulted in Nissan Canada paying for the labour on a new clutch for me. I had to pay for the clutch itself. Note that the clutch does not need to be replaced, only the bearing. It was simply more convenient to have the clutch done at the same time, at Nissans cost. There was nothing wrong with my clutch.
Be prepared to throw out your in dash 6-disc cd-player if you have it. Look up err2 ca ca018 in google. They are defective in design.
