01 Pathfinder dead spot

2001 Pathfinder SE Manual, 218k km. When I accelerate, I seem to hit a dead spot at 4000rpm. There is a significant loss of power from 4000 to 4200 or so RPM. Any idea what this could be?

I have been noticing something similar with my 1998 Pathfinder SE. Anyone has any ideas?

sounds like your intake valve timing or swirl control valve. thats about the rpm that you intake valve timing control kicks in. you might just have a vacume leak which wouldnt be there until 4K rmp. the easiest way i have found to find a vacume leak is to use a propane torch (dont laugh it works) and remember DO NOT LIGHT IT. just turn on the propane on and move it around all your vacume lines. if there is a vacume leak then your engine will suck in the propane and your rpms will jusmp about 200rpm higher. as your case you might have to do this at 4000rpms, i have never tried it at anything above idle. but believe me it works. and will not harm the engine.

it happened to me

i had the same problem a year ago, you hit the gas, rpms start going up, and as soon you hit 4000 is like somebody cut the fuel for a sec, and after the rpms keep climbing.

No MIL, no nothing...well the problem was the air flow meter...450 dollars after the truck was running as good as new....

hope this helps.
