brake lights won't go out - '90 Pathfinder

Crazy situation someone might know something about . Started out with a right turn signal that was blinking rapidly so I changed the bulb (it didn't fix it) and I kept driving.

Then one day I noticed both rear brake lights stay on all the time (while driving or stopped) , even when the car is off which was weird. I replaced the brake light switch down behind the brake pedal but nothing changed. Noticed there was another switch down there (maybe something with the cruise cont.) and unhooked its wiring harness only and lights stayed on. Unhooked both brake switch harnesses and then they did go off finally - am planning on buying the other switch , not sure what its called , to replace it.

Any ideas where to look if that doesn't work? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

One switch is the shift lock switch, the other is the brake switch. You may have gotten them backward. Swap plugs if they're interchangeable. The switches both work exactly the same.
