Bad UJoint (Slap)

Hello,

I have a 2003 Nissan Pathfinder SE 4WD Auto. It has about 40,000 miles now. As of late, I've noticed a drivetrain slap noise. To create the slap, I do the following:
1) Take out of overdrive
2) Drive about 35 MPH
3) Left off on gas pedal
4) Step on gas pedal, not hard

When doing, I hear a slapping/clunk noise in the vicinity of the drive train, can't tell if at the transfer case or read-end. This happens consistently. When searching this forum, a possible cause could be a U Joint, but the my thought is the mileage is low for this to happen; I could be wrong.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

All the best...

Had that when I was off roading a long time ago in a 81 Toyota w/4" suspension lift. Turned out that my bolts had come loose. Could also be the bearings have dried out and breaking apart.

It's pretty easy taking off the drive shaft, but can get messy. Once off, take the caps off slowly and inspect each one at a time.

That sounds like a good start. I'll have them checked out.

Thanks for the info!
