have'n a problem with the '96 . first I can't find where the ECU is , and don't know whether it's self diagnostic or if i need a code reader , my '85 Maxi had it built in.
have to try to find a manual , if i can , but any help would be great.
I'm no license'd mechanic , but have done my share , right now i'm getting the chk eng light and the truck starts now but doesn't run good and konks out alot when warm . hard to say all , the truck is new to us , our newest buy , so i did a cap and rotor (not sure what the deal is with distributor rotors in these things, but i researched up and found one that replaces the original, any info on that would help , s'pose there is a kit ) And a fuel filter . and took it for a short ride , and it did the same thing. and pop'd the choko light on
so i need to find the ECU and get some info on the codes. my next step is prob'ly finding the fuel pressure reg. and chk'n that , pretty sure i hear the fuel pump going ( don't mean it's work'n right though, sounds good ) thats's as far as i got , got the driver seat pulled to see under the dash, and pulled #1 plug to see how shes burn'n
i do have a early '99 to maybe help trouble shoot swap'n parts , but thats the only one running right for getting to work , the '91 i'm in the middle of doing heads.
well according to my hanes book for the 96-01 pathy... the 1104 code (also P0732 for scan tools ) says - A/T second gear signal fault. and the 0603 ( also P0306 for the scan tools ) says - Cylinder no.6 misfire detected. hope this helps..
Hey thanks Bonecollector ,... i'll have to check the #6 plug and see if thats it , i'll prob'ly change all the plugs while i'm at it , and chk the wires for spots ... as for the tranny code , don't know whats going on there , the tranny deff. has something wrong , stretching gears , but don't every nissan ever made have tranny problems , I know my '85 maxi had three trannys my '91 pathy has had tranny rebuilt and still no second gear , '96 is stretch'n gears ,as is my '99.
whats happening now is , cold it starts and runs fine , as it warms up , you press the gas and it sputters out , then don't start as good , then not at all, till it cools down again. Trying to troubleshot this thing without a book is kill'n me. I do live on an island in the caribbean , and it's all mountains , so finding tools , books and parts is hard. not a scan tool to be had anywhere.
yeah, its tough without a book... but with all the good people on this forum, and others someone will help you get it sorted out... as far as a service manual you can get a downloadable one online if you have something more than dialup, since its 32mb..... from a previous post, http://www.nissanforums.com/pathfind...rs-1994-a.html you just need a program to open the .rar file and something to read .pdf files... i know its not as good as having the real book but its better than nothing...
Willie, I've had the same A/T code along with all the other gears and it ended up being the TPS was out of adjustment. This might explain some of your strange shifting as well. Try searching for a past post with my username and TPS, I think I've posted the adjustments steps here before. If you can't find the steps post back and I'll find them.

Thanks Lewis , I'm going to change the plugs today. Hope thats all it is , I have to wait to do just about everything else till i find a book for the truck. Need to find the FPR , also i have to reset the codes , another poss. is the temp sensor since it happ's when it's warmed up.
So now i'm looking at finding and testing the Fuel pres. reg. ,, temp sensor ,, and maybe figure'n out the distributor ,when i went to the "dealer" , if you call them that , i call it the place that never has a part or a clue , to get a cap and rotor for the distrib. the didn't have one and couldn't even tell me there is a kit , the rotor comes in a kit of some kind i can't find any info on. also the same at Napa and western auto and all the lil places i went too. so all this could be due to something wrong there , no book no idea , the problem is finding stuff and testing it , , I can take the whole truck apart and put it back together , as i did with my '91 , but i have the book for that. That's one of the ones that have a 3.0 in it and bends every valve if the time'n is off , and this one cuts out as you go up a hill and turn to the left . starting to think about getting a toyota .
well I try'd to search for the TPS adjustment thread and found nothing that helped fine tune it on a '96 or adjust it for second gear codes.
Sorry for the Rant , I'm a lil P'd , been doing nothing but fix'n stuff on this truck since we bought it, same for the '91 and the '99. And i'm just getting stared ....
I'm off to pull plugs and check wires and clear codes ... try and take another run at this ... thanks for the help
Here's a post with the steps, very easy and only takes a few minutes. The Nissan steps have you cycle the ignition on off a ton of times to relearn the new position but I skipped that and never had the error codes back.
... yeah , the code may have had it , the #6 plug was old , NGK , and the rest were champ's , so someone got lazy. Also the throttle body was all gook'd up so i cleaned that a bit. right now i'm still in the middle of putting the dash , computer and seat back in but it seems to run ok ... i'll wait for the g/f to come home with the good one to take it any farther.
thanks again Lewis , and others that helped out with the trouble shooting.. I'll be around always from now on with anything i can help with. also have to adjust the TPS's in both trucks when i get a feeler gauge
