My indash cd changer died with err2. I can get this fixed for a reasonable cost, but with the expectation that the unit will fail again with the same error. This is a common problem with the 01 model as noteed within these forums. I am looking to splice a line in for an external 1/16" jack so I can plug an mp3 player directly into the stereo.
Unfortunately, after wiring the line into the system by tapping into the line-in coming from the useless cd changer, I don't get the results as I had hoped. I have tried disconnecting the cd changers harness and having just my line plugged into it but that dosent work. With the changer unplugged, the stereo will not accept a signal coming from the line-in and power on.
When the changer is on, the stereo keeps waiting for me to put a cd in which I cannot do since I cannot feed a disk into the changer due to err2.
I am hoping to be able to bypass this and not buy a new deck. I like the look of the stock system and prefer to avoid an aftermarket deck as I find them too flashly for the most part. I like simple. I am also cheap and would rather spend the time to resolve the problem myself rather than pay someone else to do it.
I believe you should not mess with it and just buy a new one, seriously save yourself the headache. the deck is obviously disfunctional so dont try and use it for anything.
One option is to send the cd changer unit in for repair, then after you get it back, use it as a one disk player.. dont use the cd changer options.. use one slot for cd.. then, the unit seems to hold up longer...
or, you can get one of those FM direct link for your MP3. Circuit city sell it for the overhead video system.. when you want to listen to MP3, you flip a switch, then put the radio to certain channel.. then MP3 music is fed to the radio via hard connection to the FM antenna connector in the back of the unit.. could try...

I have an FM trasmitter already but the sound is too flat. FM dosent have the frequency range that I am looking for. This can only be acieved through a direct link.
I will not repair the changer as it is a flawed design and a waste of money imo. I will probably have to get a new deck, but was hoping to avoid this.

Any ideas?
I notice you're in Ontario, hopefully close to Toronto. Kromer radio in Toronto will repair the changer for under $200 I believe. I had the same problem in my '01 Pathy and they fixed it over a year ago. Still working good. I think the trick is to not use any burned CD's... store bought only.
