05 pathfinder, SE, 4x4, rust, engine sounds...

My pathf has run almost 36k and I'm begining to have problems with sounds from the engine. As many of you guys I've also had same bad service from Nissan. Appearently they don't want to touch/repair the car of unknown reasons.

I've had the:

1) rusty streaks in the tailgate
2) buzzing sound when driving on the highway coming form the small speaker on the dash by the driver side (I was told they had to rip off the dash and since my car wasn't under any adjustment warranty anymore I would have to pay myself unless they find a part to replace).
3) a scrathy but not really rattling sound when you accelerate and just before the gear changes from 1 to 2 around 2000rpms. You hear it especially after a cold start.
4) whining sound when you start the car (probably from the belt)

If anyone have any good ideas what the different sounds might come from then please advice, I'm taking it to the dealer just before it hits 36k.

thanks pepco1. I'm taking it to the dealer today. Since #3 is intermittent they might give me a hard time. This morning the car drove very smoothly, transmission was perfect. BUt whenever the I have the sound the acceleration is terrible and ppl behind me very angry.

I just changed the oil in my 2005 Path using Mobil 1 EP synthetic. Amazingly, the engine is a lot more quiet. I also installed the Tornado to help increase HP and fuel consumption - there truly is a difference.

You've gotta be kidding, right? The Tornado has been tested numerous times and there is NO increase in MPG or HP on ANY vehicle tested. You just wasted money, my friend.

I actually tried it on my other nissan and it did show improvement, both in power and economy. some otyher idiot might think it'll run like a rocket ship, i dont think so. but if you figure out a lot about combustion theory, it does make sense. air and fuel are mixed well enough and thast split second explosion is maximized.

Actually my friend, there is a difference. If I were you, try it yourself, if you dont see a difference, return it! Believing everything you read can be as deadly as not believing, prove it yourself then get back to me.

LOL, it's all junk. Just a quick logic check: If it increases HP & mileage and is cheep to make, wouldn't all the car manufactures already put it on their vehicles?
Actually here is a clip:

"THE DYNO SAYS: Both devices reduced peak horsepower by more than 10 percent. The Intake Twister increased fuel consumption by about 20 percent; the TornadoFuelSaver provided no significant change."

LOL, like I said, what have you got to loose? As for me, I am finally happy on how smooth my Path runs and its improved economy and power... Some of these guys used to also write, synthetic oil is no diffrent from regular oil and also that you dont need to change your oil as prescribed...thats all I gotta say. Good luck!

It sounds like you also changed over to Mobil 1 at the same time as you installed the Tornado, right?

So you made 2 changes, and noticed an improvement, not independent changes. Oh well, the important thing (for you) is that you got the improvement. I'm just going to change over to Mobil 1 (hit 3K miles last night, so I’ll do it next weekend) and leave the rest alone.

Exactly.

Spiral Intake a.k.a. The Tornado (Back to Index)

Here's what I found on the dyno. The data is uncorrected and smoothed (to avoid getting too many unbalancing peaks) to S=3 on dynojet's software. I made six passes on the dyno. Two with the Tornado unit installed followed by a 20 minute cooldown (with the engine idling) and two runs without the Tornado installed. Following yet another 20 minute cooldown with the engine idling I proceeded to make two more runs with the Tornado unit installed.

Run #1 w/Tornado: 145.1 HP, 147.3 lb-ft Run #2 w/Tornado: 145.3 HP, 146.7 lb-ft

Run #3 noTornado: 148.0 HP, 149.8 lb-ft Run #4 noTornado: 146.8 HP, 149.3 lb-ft

Run #5 w/Tornado: 145.6 HP, 148.8 lb-ft Run #6 w/Tornado: 146.3 HP, 148.4 lb-ft

As you can see from the above numbers, coming in "hot" from the street produced the lowest numbers. I did allow for about a 10-15 minute cooldown before hitting the dyno the first Time. So perhaps the second run wasn't surprising, with the car probably being a bit cooler. The third set of runs is what put the nail in the coffin when it comes to the Tornado. Although the third set was a bit improved over the first set, it was still visibly lower than the second of runs. (thanks to JTT)

Yet another snake oil automotive product.
I could go on, but seat-of-your-pants dynoing is not they way to prove a product works, regardless.

Hey, I agree, any improvement is good, even if it is a psychological one.

I just bought and installed an Airaid throttle body spacer over the weekend. I just filled the tank and will see the results on gas milage and performance. I have a 63 series intake and a magnaflow exhaust installed. this device goes behind the throttle body not at the air mass sensor.

Any one have experience with this product?
