'04 VQ35DE Maxima engine to '01 Pathfinder?

With all the trouble I've been having I'm looking to swap a used engine into my pathy.

Does anyone know if the VQ35DE from a '04 Maxima will swap into a '01 Pathfinder with the VQ35DE? It looks like the same block/heads. I'm sure all of the external parts from the pathfinder will need to be swapped to the Maxima engine. Wasn't sure if this was possible.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Although the motors are for the most part identical, I believe there are some differences in how the variable valve timing works. I think it's more advanced in the newer 3.5's and therefore you'd have to downgrade the new engine by using the old system from the old motor. I'm sure any Nissan mechanic could tell you if it's possible.

I believe the camshafts are tuned for more low-end power and less top-end power on the pathfinders 3.5 as well, so you may want to use your old camshafts as well, considering the weight of the truck, and gearing. The upper intakes are different too, as the Max's 3.5 is mounted transverse, and the Pathy's longitudinal. Physically though, it should fit no problem.

Joe.
