Exclamation SES Light and a strange trouble code

Recently, my 99.5 Pathy has been getting a Service Engine Soon light sporadically. The first time it came on, my mechanic used his scan tool to determine it was a O2 sensor high voltage (I don't recall the Pxxxx code OBD-II) and recommended dry gas to eliminate water in the fuel. I suppose that worked, but the light came back maybe 80 miles later. He checked the ECU again, but this time there was no Pxxxx code. Instead, it read "4 key cycles since failure." He cleared the code; the scan tool indicated P0000 and "0 cycles since failure." 288 miles later, the SES light came back on. Again, there was no Pxxxx code and the scan tool showed "4 key cycles since failure." So, it's reset once more and I wait...

Anyone have a clue, because I don't

No clue. The OBDII reader should give current or pending codes, and maybe a status of the monitors (EVAP, Misfire etc.). None of that info above looks familiar. Next time the light comes on try Autozone, they'll read it for free.

I haven't paid anyone to read the codes, my mechanic is cool. He is baffled by this as there should always be current/pending codes as you said. I'd hate to have to go to the stealership.

You also have a diagnostic mode selector screw on the ECM in your Pathfinder that you can check and clear codes without an OBDII reader. Search on "diagnostic mode selector" on this site and you'll find some past posts on how to do this.
