recurring rattles????

I have posted a few threads in the past regarding some of the annoying rattle issues with my 2005 Pathfinder. I have had the vehicle for right at 1 year, and I was hoping that after a year of driving it, some of these rattles would have worked themselves out so to speak. However, they have not, and one thing I have noticed is that as the outside temperature has increased (summer arriving), the interior rattles in my PF have become more prevalent. I noticed the rattles really weren't as prevalent in the winter time, but I live in Texas where it really doesn't get that cold. We still run the A/C in our cars at times during the winter, but it definitely gets very warm during the spring and summer!

Anyway, the most annoying rattle appears to be coming from under the dash, but it almost sounds like its coming from the emergency brake lever area. I took it to the dealership and they said they replaced the emergency brake assembly, however, soon after I left the dealership, the rattle started again. This was their way of getting the vehicle back to me fast. I am not satisfied.

After reading through some other posts, I have come up with a possibilty for my rattle. (It actually sounds more like a popping/cracking noise). I saw a post that talked about a rattle coming from an a/c hose that was improperly positioned and was rubbing up against the firewall. I'm wondering if this is my problem as well.

- The rattle doesn't usually start until I have been driving for a few minutes at least.
- The rattle is more prevalent when the weather is warm outside.
- It seems to me that it probably has to do with the air conditioning system, because I am constantly running it now that summer is here.

I know the noise is coming from the drivers side area of my car. Is there a hose that connects to the left a/c vent?

I hate to take it back to the dealership to fix if they can't seem to diagnose it either.

Please give me your opinions. Thanks in advance.

I'm convinced it has something to do with the air conditioning system, but not certain. Thanks for your help.

I have one that sounds like it might be coming from behind the vent on the drivers side closest the door. Could yours be coming from the same area? Also I have one that is coming from the small vent on the A pillar that is for defogging the door windows. If I press on that vent, it goes away for a while. Passenger side does the same thing too if you have that one. Maybe we should get together and compare rattles

I have determined where the rattle is coming from. It is actually underneath my Pathfinder from a gold spring like looking thing. What is this thing? Is it the CV Joint? U Joint? I'm not very parts saavy, so please help. I guess I have a faulty one whatever it is.

The noise can be heard inside the car when driving. I racked my brain over the weekend trying to figure out what it was. I even removed the drivers side running board thinking it was that. I removed the lower portion of the dash beneath the steering column thinking it was that...nope! The way I discovered it is when I got out of the PF I was able to recreate the noise by rocking the car from side to side. The rattle seems to occur when there is a shift in momentum.

Can anyone tell me what this part is? It looks like a series of 5 large gold "washers" put together and there are a few of them under the car. It's not right by the wheels, but a little toward the inside. Remember, I'm an idiot when it comes to parts.

Please help so I can tell the dealership where the problem is. Thanks!

It is louder when the door is open.

Anyway, the dealership is taking a look at it and the rattle behind the radio??? Who knows what that could be.

I'm about ready to trade this thing in if these rattles can't be resolved. I never had this many quality issues with my either of my Ford F-150, Explorer and Ford Ranger.

So the dealership really sucks.. They refuse to even help me regarding these issues. It is extremely frustrating. I can physically make the rattle noise from pushing on the body mount bushing which is directly beneath the drivers side floor board. The dealership pretends that they can't hear anything. My theory is that when it is warm outside, the grease in that bushing allows the metal to get a little more flexible and the bolt mount is rattling up against the bushing causing a rattle which is transferred into the frame and thus you can hear the rattle inside the car. I know this is the problem, but I guess they think the vehicle is too new for this body mount bushing to go bad.

The dealership does not do anything to go above and beyond to help the customer which is really frustrating. I would fix it myself, but since it is under warranty, I do not dare do this since they could tell me I messed it up in the first place.

Any suggestions???

You could tell them they have 3 or 4 chances to fix it or you will look into the lemon law in your state or take it to another dealer and have them look at it.

My 06 has a tapping or rattle that comes and goes. It seems to do it more with warmer temps outside. My noise sounds like it is coming from the panel where the drivers seatbelt retracts into or coming from over my left shoulder while driving. I have rode in the back and it sounds like its coming from the front drivers area not the back drivers side door, weird. It does it more when vehicle leans into corner going to the right. It sounds like its metal to metal or metal to glass almost like a vibration instead of a rattle. It may not do it for a good while and then suddenly start for no reason. I havent had dealer look at it yet. I am still trying to pinpoint it more so dealer will have better idea what to look for.

Sounds like we have the same dealer. Mine refuses to look at any of my rattles because they are ALL being caused by my Vent Visors and aftermarket muffler. I have tried talking to the Service Manager, General Manager, my Salesman, anyone. No one has been any help. If you have talked to all those people and still are not getting results, you can either find another dealer or get rid of the car. That is the point I am at right now.

I have something that sounds similar. Next time it occurs, try pulling up on the rear drivers window switch and see if it goes away, mine does. Please let me know if this works.

Can you be more specific as to the location of the gold spring? I have the same rattle and am trying to locate the part you mentioned. Maybe a photo?
