1996 Pathfinder Rotor replacement

Hello

I was wondering if I could get some info on replacing the front rotors on my 1996 pathfinder. I just bought this vehicle and would like to replace them while putting new pads on. Is it a difficult job on this car? I have done rotors many times on other cars, but never a pathfinder. What will I need to do? Any tricks or tips? Any help would be appreciated...

Thanks, Rick

It's probably a little more involved than the ones you've worked on before. Normally the rotor attaches to the front of the hub or is merely held on by the rim, so removing the wheel and caliper gives you good access to remove the rotor. On the pathfinder the rotor is attached to the back side of the hub, requiring the removal of the hub. Good time to inspect and repack the bearings while you're in there. You might try searching for past posts on bearings since that would discuss removing and reattaching the hub and replacing the rotor would just be an extra step.

Thank you Lewis for the reply. I did do some searching and it is more involved than the run of the mill rotor replacement, but nothing I can't do, I hope. I found this article with pics and hope that this is what mine will be like. Could you take a look and tell me if this is what I can expect? I know this is a 2000 Model and mine is a 96', but I was hoping they were the same. Once again, Thanks,

Rick

Looks pretty close. I'd recommend having snap ring pliers and the locknut socket OTC7698 since the Nissan steps call for quite a bit of torque when you're seating the hub and bearings after the repack. Hard to get that torque with a punch like mentioned in that link. Make sure you buy the inner seals from Nissan, some from the auto stores don't have the same lip. I'd also recommend getting the Nissan FSM steps if you can.

Thank you for your help and advice. I will head to Nissan today for the parts. Would I purchase this socket from them as well or is this something I can get at the local auto parts store? I'm looking for a Manual at this point, but both places I went had none. Not sure what "FSM steps" is???

Thanks, Rick

FSM is the factory service manual. I could only find that socket online, www.handsontools.com has it. Search for OTC7698 and you'll find it all over the place. You can also get one close at the auto parts store and bend/grind it to fit.
