rear parallel bar bushing

hi guys, just wondering if you guys can help me out. i have a 1997 nissan pathfinder 3.3L V6 4x4 with 155k. i took the suv in a couple of days ago and the dealer told me that the rear parallel bar bushing is worn out. he said that it cost me $1200 to fix that. WOW!! then i asked where its located and he said that the mechanics are too busy at the moment but they can get it done for me today? hmmm? is it because im a woman? atleast show me what you're talking about before i shed $1200. can you guys tell me where the rear parallel bushing is located? and if its hard to change? i cant afford to spend $1200 at this time. what exactly does the rear parallel bushing is for? thanks guys.

The dealer is giving you a line of BULL #$%^. First question: Is the vehicle swaying in the back end, or are you even experiencing any handling problems?
Pathys are know for lower and upper link bushing problems. The parallel bar he is refering too is located behind the rear axel and is attached to the axel and frame. It sort of serves the purpose that the older sway bars did. NO WAY NO HOW is it that expensive to replace. Even if you have to replace the entire assembly which is never the case. Only the bushing wear out. You can have all of the link bushings replaced for around $600. Use polymar replacements if you can get them.

thanks for your reply airbear. this is the reason why some of us dont have confidence with some of the dealers spcecially if you're a woman. well, to answer your question airbear, it does swing a little when i make a turn. i wish i can see for myself where exactly this darn bushing is. i'll have my son go under the hood and see exactly where its at. do they look like 2 sort of pipes running parallel to each other? and each end has bushing in them? are these the ones?
