01 PF entertainment system

did 01 pathfinder came with DVD or VHS for entertainment system? the roof only got the display correct? and the VHS or DVD unit was located some where else in the vehicle? can any one with that system confirm the location?

01s with VINs 550,000 and up are pre-wired for VES and VHS or DVD were available options. Both player units mount in the drivers side floor of the hatch. The install kit includes the dvd or vhs, a remote, AUX switch for the dash, the pre-amp unit that mounts in the rear, a new bracket for the Bose amp (the pre-amp mounts to the new bracket), the LCD screen, and a set of wireless head phones.

I picked up a complete VHS system on ebay for $100. I trashed the VHS player and made an adapter for the single DIN cable into the pre-amp. I then ran a longer AV cable to the center console where I have a $99 portable DVD player.

Thanks for the information.. thats exactly what I was looking for.. retrofit a vhs system to dvd.. i will keep looking to get a complete system as opposed to just the screen and vhs player from ebay...

If your VIN is 550,000 or higher and if you have found the screen all you really need it the pre-amp box and Aux switch. The pre-amp is a small silver box that is 3"x5" mounted on the drivers side about 1' in front of the tail lights. It has a 2' din cable that plugs to the VCR. It also plugs into a pre-wired din that goes to the overhead screen. It also plugs into a pre-wired power plug. If you don't get the bracket it is no big deal as you can mount the small pre-amp with double sided tape. The switch should pop put of the dash easily. It is similar to a seat heater switch. The plug is below the radio taped to other wires.

Wireless Nissan headphones sell for around $30 on ebay and are easy to find. They look similar to the Audivox and may be the same. They are too large for my 5 year olds head so she uses smaller wired headphones that plug into the DVD in the center console.

My '03 has the factory DVD system....very pricey option at $1600!!
