02 Pathfinder questions?

Recently bought a 2002 Pathfinder Chilkoot at 88K Kilometer. It only came with one key. When I have my spare key cut by local dealer, it cost me CAD174.47, oouch.

After the key cut, the work order has 3 recommendations.

1) Replace both belts - $153.39 + taxes.
2) Replace Air filter/upper intake service $71.49 + taxes.
3) Replace both front stablizer Links/nuts - loose - $162.12 + taxes.

The only thing I know is to check the airfilter which indeed is dirty and I I replace it by a K&N airfilter. What will the upper intake service involve?

Do we really need to change the belt so soon? Anyway we can check it ourselves?

Is the stablizer links the same as End Link? If so, is there any after market kit like Energy Suspension that fit our car?

By the way, this Pathfinder is pretty heavy on gas. Even after using a new K&N airfilter and Shell V-Power, I can only get 17L per 100Kilometer mostly city with 2WD mode which is even worse than my 1993 Caravan (15L per 100K using bronze). Will a 96K service improve the gas mileage?

Thanks in advance.

I have an 02 SE with 97K miles on it. My mechanic recommended changing the belts at 60K miles. He showed me the ones he took off and there were visible cracks so I was glad I had it done. Aside from changing the air filter, I haven't had any of the other work done that you mention.

u delt with the intake, when u changed the filter. Your sway bar has end links that connect to the lower control arms. on the end of the link there will be a nut, it should be a tight nylon lock nut. if those are there, then dealership is tryin' to jack u. never get service done by the dealer.
