Unhappy Timing belt & water pump replaced...noisy

Original Owner of 1999.5 Pathfinder with 106k miles
I kept up all the scheduled maintenance and the car has been great and never had a bit of problems with it. A week ago I had my timing belt, water pump and crank case seals all replaced. Since that time the car has been idling rough and the exhaust seems noticeably nosier.
I've taken back to the shop and they say everything is fine, but I know this car and this is definitely a new symptom.

Is this normal when you change any of these items, or is there an area I should be looking into that may be the cause?

Thanks!

No this is not normal. It sounds like either the TPS was moved or damaged or they installed your belt one tooth off. It could be that the whole thing is off or jsut one cam shaft. I would ask them you check it, check it yourself or paysomeone else to check it. All you have to do is remove the cover ( I know its a pain in the ass) and count teeth.

One other thought I just had.... when I did mine last time I mistakenly left off a big vaccuum hose and it ran like crap until I got that back on.... check that out first.

When I changed my 97 I had no issues with idle or noise, well minus the fan belt squeeling a week or so later after it stretched out. Is it running rough at all speeds, I would think if its a tooth off it would run rough all the time, not just at idle. Can you post the timing belt part# just to confirm they put the right belt on?

Doesn't look like a Nissan part#, I'm guessing this shop wasn't a Nissan service dept? It could be a tooth off as mentioned, incorrect belt or improperly tensioned belt. I'd keep pushing on the shop to correct it.

The service engine light came today on so I took it back the dealership and the timing IS off, so I've taken the car back to the shop that did the belt. Hopefully they'll get it right this time!

Thanks for the help in diagnosing the problem!

how often should the t-belt be changed on a 99.5?

is it an interference engine (ie, the belt breaks = engine damage)?
