My 88 pathy as of late seems to be starving for gas and or running very rough when the tank starts dipping below 1/4 my first instinct would be the fuel pump getting weak since i think this is the original pump second is oe the best bet as far as a replacement?
I recently replaced my fuel pump and I found a company that salavages fuel pumps out of scrapped vehicles. He gauranteed the pump for 2 year and even altered the wiring to be better (the reason my failed). I paid a quarter of the price of a new one.

I replaced my pump a couple of months ago myself. I decided to spend the extra $40 to get a genuine Nissan pump. I don't usually buy dealer parts unless I have to, but in this case, I decided to. I just figured that the work involved in the replacing of the pump was significant enough that I didn't want to do it again any time soon. Plus, the original Nissan pump had worked well (and quietly) for many years, so I tought I'd stick with the "better quality" part.
This was a local guy in Toronto. I had to drive 2 hours to get it, but it was well worth it. I kept the old fuel pump since I know a few guys that can repair them. I would call around and ask, ask some local shops if they know of anyone as well.
One thing to mention, when I replaced the pump it didn't come with a float. I put the float off my old on it and it fit fine. But I have noticed that for some reason when my gauge says empty, I still have a fair bit if fuel left in the tank. Say, 15 litres.
Last night i didnt think it would make it home bogging spitting etc replaced the fuel filter checked al the vaccum hoses and she ran fine from my ole mans house home and all day today however went to the store this evening its back to the rough idle spitting and bogging down. The only thing i can think of is the fuel pump going out i cant imagine the filter getting glogged this fast i did put in some lucas injecter cleaner and some gas line anti freeze
well sputtered and puffed this morning so i snugged the egr valve which was alittle loose checked all the hoses again and cranked her spurted and puffed till it warmed up the seemed to smooth out some by the time i got home 9 miles away was running great again its driving me nuts! When its running bad i get alot of black smoke
I have a '94 pathfinder. I replaced my plugs and they had a lot of black soot. Not oily though. I have lots of black soot coming from tailpipe. Maybe the airflow meter? Any help?
