Did a coolant flush on my 01 this weekend
What a pain. The block drains are no fun. You can't see either and must feel for the bolts. Drain #1 (12mm) is just to the left of the ac compressor. It is set back a few inches and could be seen with a mirror. Once you find it, it is easy to remove. Drain #2 (17mm) is just above the starter and below the exhaust. You need many socket adapters and u-joints to get on that one. When the plugs go back in, they need thread sealer.
The fluid that came out looked new at 60k miles. I re-filled with Nissan coolant and distilled water. Don't try to save $10 with non Nissan coolant. Go with the good stuff. Nissan did a great job of adding a vent to the heater pipe at the back of the engine. It was very easy to get all the air out. Don't forget to turn the heat on high for 10 seconds before you drain. Otherwise you won't drain the heater core.
