Tell me about the Pathfinder (1996)

I'm new to the Nissan thing. How reliable are they? Any weak links? I know it's a 3.3L but what about the tranny and t-case? Diffs? Do I have a limited slip in the rear? My wife just bought a new car so I ended up keeping the nissan as a winter beater. It has 160k but it looks new. I'm just wondering how long it will last. I wish I had an earlier model with the solid front axle for the offroad factor. I've done tons of mods to my Cherokee and Wrangler so now I'm looking to mess around with this thing. Thanks.

Pathfinders have never been offered with solid front axles.

Pathfinders are very reliable and good for lots of mileage. Unfortunately in your case, the 1996 was the only one made that did not have a good reputation. The '96 was a completely new design.

My 97 is a very relliable truck it has 230k miles and ive done little more than the bare essentials to it. I have discovered its expensie to tinker with but if you leave it alone it works great and keeps on running.

Is the 1996 really rated poorly?..Everything I've seen on it were good reviews...

very reliable, strong, problem free, very good 4x4. weak but longlasting engine accepts all quality of gasoline. called world engine. 12 valves gives you torque curve start to achieve it peak at lower revs but it hesitates to accelerate on higher engine speeds. especially auto transmission equiped ones like mine is not good at higher engine speeds. lets say after 3000 revs it is too slow.

pathfinders will run up to 300k miles no trouble...

just to tell ya, my last pfinder, a 1993... i rolled it going 70 and was able to walk away (seriously, once i stopped i opened the passenger door, climbed out and walked away) from it with no scratches or even a bruise on my body. they are incredible safe and really fun to drive. they last forever and take alot of pressure to crush because they are a solid frame car. i just bought a new 1998 pathfinder and i love it already

a 1996 is a good choice too, the new design era! HAVE FUN and wear a seatbelt
