4x4 hesitation, yikes

I put my Pathy into 4wd last night. I forgot if it was 4L or 4H, and at low speeds it seemed like the gears were caught or stuck. It felt similar to when my Supra's differential/axle would freeze up in winter. It would stick, and then break free. However it did it more than it had in the Supra.

Any thoughts?

do you mean you felt binding when turning? is yours the manual transfer case. if so theres no center differential so 4x4 is not meant for dry roads or high traction conditions. its most likely not 4LO since you did not have to shift into neutral to change it. but anyway, 4x4 with a manual transfer case and no center differential causes binding when turning. dont keep doing it because it will cause damage if the stress is too much.

4 Low is NOT meant for normal driving. So make sure you "make sure" which one you are in. 4 low is for low speed low traction only.

Correct, the 4Lo should only be used in "loose" driving surfaces at low speeds for max torque to the wheels.

If used on pavment under normal codition, causes extreme wear on all engaged 4WD parts.
