Buzzzin heat shields-Any quick fix??

Hi All
I bought a 1998 pathfinder a couple a weeks ago. It runs and drives great. At one point in the RPM band it makes a buzzzzin. Sounds to me like a heat shield. I have never seen so many heat shields on a suv before. If I can figure out which one has the buzz does anyone have a fix??
Thanks for the help John

I know exactly what you mean. I had that same thing on my 03 Pathfinder. I didn't fix it by myself but I took it to the dealer and they fixed it. I think it was the heat sheilds. HOpe this helps.

The universal fix for the cat converter shields and the pipe shields are big hose clamps. as for the manifold shilds well maybe you could rig something there too. Maybe some sainless wire around each manifild port with a twist and a snip with the pliers.....

Hey thats cool rip them right off ...........then when you fail the vehicle inspection you can pay 200-300 for new ones.....

hoseclamps are cheap and easy and they rarely rattle again.

I have seen the big hoseclamps used for this exact same problem on a few vehicles in the past... works fine. Just do it already...

I take it that was a direct poke at my comment, well my vehicle passed the test with no problems, seeing as I had very little to work with anyway due to rust.

Mearly a comment, no need to be sarcastic, but I am sure you are the expert in this field.

No worries - its a little ribbing thats what the emicons are for. I have lived that statement. You pull off the vibrating metal, the vehicle inspector sites the lack of shields you have to buy new ones.

c'mon forgetaboutit.... hers a little fluffy for you instead my friend

Both Maine and New Hampshire inspect everything. They even check the pressure release value of your GASCAP . Some other items but not all:

brakes, tires, boots - ball joint cv etc. no torn boots or oil oozing from them. Belts that are cracked dont pass. emissions in place. Only Cumberland County maine actually sniff the pipe. Heat shields are a big one. leaking shocks wipers as well as wiper sprayers, if one is clogged you dont pass, they caliper your brake rotors and drum for thickness. seat belts window cracks etc. and the rest like lights horns trans radiator axle leaks...

Oh the new one is improper tire size... a 205/70-16 that should be a 205/65-16 wont pass.....and its suppose to be same make model and size of tire on each axle....its crazy.....

they are nazi's about it up here.

so yeah heat shields are a must up here.

Interesting.... and they do all that for how much? The state I live in charges $12.50 for an inspection, and they certainly dont do as much as your inspectors do.
Wow...... no harm done, you caught me on a bad day! you know, nissan problems.......

Here in Sweden they charge u about 48 $ for an inspection, but they arent as hard as in architectdaves state, Heat shilds isnt a must here for an example.
An inspection takes about 15 minutes to do here.

A caravan costs about 60$, takes about 5-10 min.

(and a litre of gas are around 2$)

It costs I think about 20.00 for an inspection and the older the car the longer it takes. The longest ive had one was for 25 minutes. There was a problem with them removing the rear drum on my honda.

It helps if you know the shop and they know you. Im sure they skip sill things but tehy do measure the tire tread depth and read-verify emissions content etc.

Its money for them if they catch something and if you get in a accident with crap tires the state troopers will come down on them for giving you a sticker.

Did i mention the inspection stickers in Maine have barcodes the State Troopers scan? I dont know what its for but Its another new thing they do......Theres word they want to install scanners at the toll boths and photograph your license plate send you a notice to come in for a review of your vehicle if you dont have a sticekr or its expired.

ITS ALL ABOUT MAKING MONEY AND ITS A SCAM. ..... THIS NEOCON CANT STAND IT !!!!!!!
