I need help

I am getting a loud pinging/ tinny sound at around 2000rpm (originally thought it was a cat/conv problem) but now I am convinced it is an engine noise ( lifters rap at cold start-up for a few minutes until warmed) Is there anyone who has encountered this problem or similar with their 3.5 pathfinder 2003 LE ? I only have 40K on this veh.

Valentine,
I would start out by having someone hold the rpm at 2000, then touch the heat shields over the exhaust manifolds with a long handle, etc. Might just be a harmonic on all that tin.
Good luck.

Could also be an exhaust leak from the manifold or head pipe flange.

It's possibly the heat shields. I had the same issue on mine and they can be tightened.

I have the same thing at start up in cold weather in my 2003. I bought mine with 46k miles and now have 55k miles. The dealer said everything in the truck checks out perfect.
