94 Pathfinder stalled won't start

Hello,

I was driving my Pathfinder today and when I turned the corner it just stalled and I couldnt get it started back up. It said I had a 1/2 tank of gas, and there were no signs of any problems. It still turns overs and there is no power loss. We tapped on the gas tank and it sounded completely empty! We added gas but it is still stalling. Any ideas what to try next? Thanks

When you say stalling, you seem to indicate that it starts, runs for a bit, then stops. Is that the case or do you mean the starter is turning the engine by the engine never fires up?
In either case, since you were turning a corner when this first happened, check for loose wires; grounds, ignition, etc.. It may be a fuel problem - something could have sloshed and clogged the filter or the pickup screen - but you could check the fuel line (carefully as it is under pressure).

Timing belt? Fuel pump? Rusted gas lines? It's hard to tell how much gas is in the tank by tapping on it. My wife's old Tercel quit once like this. Since the gas guage didn't work, I suspected it was empty. Tapping was inconclusive. Turned out the timing belt had broken. But given the PF engine is an interference engine, I'd suspect it would make an awful racket if that were the problem. If it was ruptured fuel lines, it should be pretty obvious it is spewing gas all over the place. Needs a lot more diagnosis. Would the ecu codes help here?

Distributor

Thanks! I got a diagnostic done this morning and they said it was the distributor rotor, cap, and my battery caps were corroded. Luckily all cheap things to fix.
