pathfinder ecu

Does the ECU in a 00 pathfinder store the true mileage of the vehicle or is it only the odometer/cluster that does so? thanks

AFAIK know the ecu will not transfer mileage.

woody6226;

The answer is no, the cluster has an embedded microprocessor and ROM chip in it, the FLASH ROM stores the mileage and cannot be erased. The dash receives pulse signals from the transmission and that is what makes these new speedometers and odometers tick.

Swapping out the dash cluster will change the mileage.

If the dealer has to replace a cluster on warrenty or a body shop, they will order the cluster with the pre-deturmined mileage at the time from the factory and it will have that mileage when they receive it. "Special ordered"

Thanks for the answer - not exactly what I was hoping, but thank you.

I thought it was possible to track the real mileage through the ecu to detect odometer fraud.

That would not prevent fraud as it would be just as easy to swap out the ECU.

I don't get why they wouldn't have mileage stored in the ECU

Maybe because it would require additional wires, circuits and memory and it would serve no purpose.
