I am currently at 5000 miles on my pathfinder. I am goin to be driving down to florida which when i get back to new york i will at around 7500 miles.
The service costs $99 at the dealer which is obviously too expensive. Its basically an oil change and a tire rotation right?
I know nothing about car fixing but isnt a tire rotation just switching of the tires? Can't I go to my generic mechanic pay him 10 bucks and he'll move around the tires? Is there anything more to that?
The procedures for changing your oil and rotating tires are in your owners manual with pictures. I can cut an paste to here for you but you have it printed out already. It is not hard. I just did my own oil change this last weekend.
There are a few tips however. Do you plan on changing your own oil?

let me know.
No one will do anything for 10 bucks these days... But that does'nt mean you can't. It is all in the manual
Filter is 7.50 from your local rip off artisst (oh wait I meant nissan dealership - they kill me 7.50 for the damn thing, list price, I always got wholesale at any Jeep dealership I went to for parts on my old Cherokee - anyway) 10 bhucks worth of oil from walmart (it comes in 5 gallon jugs and the pathfinder need 5.1 quarts, don't worry 5 is fine) grab a filter wrench for 5.00 (not required if you have a decent grip, but makes life easier. Grab a gallon of windshieldwasher fluid and there you have it, less than 30 bucks for your 7500 mile service.
BTW is this your first oil change at 7500 miles?

Actually i am not talkin about oil changes, i was just talking about my dealer mentioned 7500 mile service for $99.. I looked it up and basically its just a tire rotation.
I was wondering if its anything more and since its just a tire rotation i can go to my mechanic and get it done cheap.
I paid $150 for unlimited oil changes from the dealer for as long as i own the car so thats not a problem

Do you have to replace the washer everytime when you change the oil? I used to do oil changes on my two older cars and I never replaced any washers and they were fine.

On my old Subaru I changed the crush ring about every other change and seemed fine without leaking too...

Did you have a crush washer on yours drain plug wehn you did your oil change? My drain plug did not.
Mine did have a crush washer on it when I took the old one off. I have not had a vehicle that had to have them changed before but at $0.59 each I figured what the heck.

Exactly... I paid $8 for 20 of them at my dealer. It will be quite a while before I need to buy more washers.
Some crush washers can be reused (my Mazda Protege is a good example -- it's a solid thick washer that will reshape when pressed). However, these Nissan washers seem to be more of a crush ring, which is very thin and malleable. If the inner ring ever gets bent the least little bit, it might have a hard time forming a complete seal.

I see.... I will probably change the oil for my Pathy later this month, thanks!
id love to do all this stuff my self but i dont have a house and a driveway , i have an apartment in nyc n i park on the street sometimes blocks away from the building.
its kinda hard to be laying under the car when there is an inch of space between other parralel parked cars in front and behind you and changing the oil lol
