Auto industry Rant

My personal rant take it for whats its worth....nothing
Iam seeing this more and more it just makes me sick. They take the bottom of the line econo box model car normally selling around $10,000. They study the aftermarket suppliers after a few years. Then bring out a sport model of the same car. First start by making the model name change by adding a few letters and or numbers... X,R,G,T,W,S. They tighten up the suspension, bolt on a spoiler and air dam. Don't forget a mesh grill panel, rims, and some lick and stick graphics. If your lucky a low end turbo that only overheats the poor little engine. Add another $10,000 + to the price tag. There you have the hottest new sports car.

im in the process of talking my mom into getting a new maxima shes wants to get an impala SS or a ford 500...the SS im not particularly worried about, only cuz its supercharged and pretty cool looking but, i hate the fact that its still a chevy, i HATE their interiors. but just today i was driving around with her and we saw an altima and she was like "ooooh, tom, whats that?" i told her it was a nissan altima, and she said she liked it she likes big luxo cars. but the last two she owned were fords and theyre both POS's so im trying to talk her into the Max

sorry to hijack

Please don't get me wrong I love custom cars I don't care if its a yugo. The industry is cashing in on the custom look I belive only takes away from all the bloody knuckles in a true custom.

haha, Neon's the first (and prolly only) thing that comes to mind.

Most other cars have very subtle differences between the low end model and the high end model. What most companies are doing now is creating a completely new car all together to seperate the sport from the economy.

e.g. the new SI, the Nissan Sport concept, RSX (to replace the integra).

I dont understand right now, Im even considering an SRT-4, they are good cars, so what if they slapped on a turbo? It has an excellent setup, outrunning and outpacing alot of cars that cost 3-4 times more than it does. These cars are bang for the buck and for the most part thats exactly what you get. What else besides a bike can you get a NEW car that has potential of running 12's in factory form, and staying under 20K? Not many. And if the Sport concept makes it to production, then Im going to add that to my list as well.

The point I am getting at is any fool with a pocket full of cash can pick up a SRT-4. I am more impressed with a base model neon built to run in the 12's. Thats where the skill and talent come to play in a true custom.

well not everyone wants to build it. It would cost alot more to make a base model run what the factory turbo car does. In terms its just alot more efficient to buy it that way. If I could save 5 grand or more then you can put that money into the car and make it your own.

Used early neon under $2000, fresh low mile motor $400, fresh paint $2000, wipple suppercharger $5000, headers $100, cat and back $300.
$9800 will peal the paint off a SRT and you'll never see anouther one like it on the road.

It seems like everyone and their mother has SRT-4 Neons in my area, I used to like them but that isn't holding up too well except for when I see one that has some *clean* custom work in addition.

but why buy a srt4 get the mopar upgrades and it will run less than that.

ss cobalts are bad ass too 2.0 supercharged the ion red line is bad ass.

it like this thread makes no sense the diffrent versions is all what you want you got the base model since its the cheapest. the diffrent trim also might have another engine choice diffrent horse power.

well maybe this thread would of made sense like 10 years ago but probably not. this is pointless bitching. makes as much sense as my post

i thimk most of us would rather have a 12 sec car that cost 19k than a 16k car that we put over 8k to make it fastr and light and barley push low 12s.
