I can't find the video where the narrator talks about all of the problems in the US (obesity, etc) and downplays pot being a problem in our society. Anyone who can link it would be cool.

Really, we should be talking about THC here since that is the active chemical agent in pot. There are NO harmful effects from THC that have been found (except by the american government, but those were very fabricated results. ie: pot makes you a sex starved rapist, pot will make you insane, pot makes you violent).

Thanks Nos for putting up the vaporizor link, that should show these straight-edges that there is more to weed than just smoking it.

Everyone drinks here, I'm sure. You know how much damage to your body you do when you get drink too often. Let's face it, we do things to ourselves every day that harm us, just because it makes us feel good, tastes good, or any other reason.

Okay.....you want the research....here's the research.....

From the Heart.org:
Study #1 (note!! This one was ESPECIALLY for you since you talke about the benifits of THC!! They STILL say it's bad for you, even with the SMALL benefits!)

Smoking marijuana still bad for you!
Dr Michael Roth (David Geffen School of Medicine, Los Angeles, CA), the author of an accompanying News and Views with the published paper, said it is important not to misinterpret the data.

"The findings by Steffens et al are striking, but they should not be taken to mean that smoking marijuana is beneficial for the heart," he cautioned. "The dose-response curve to THC in this study was very narrow and U-shaped, with higher and lower concentrations failing to produce protective effects. It would be difficult to achieve such specific concentrations in the blood by smoking marijuana."

Roth notes that THC binds to and activates the CB1 and CB2 receptors with similar affinity. Smoking marijuana exerts its psychotropic influence mainly by binding to CB1 receptors in the brain, resulting in an increase in blood pressure and pulse rate. "These effects lower the exercise threshold for angina and are an independent risk factor for heart attack and stroke," he writes. Moreover, smoking marijuana also increases the concentration of carboxyhemoglobin in the blood, impairing oxygen delivery. He agreed with the researchers, writing that the advantage of these positive effects will mean developing drugs that target the CB2 receptor alone.

Study #2

Marijuana linked to MI risk in middle-aged users

note: MI is another shortened term for a heart attack for those of you who don't know.

Increases in heart rate after smoking marijuana coupled with hemodynamic changes and disruption of the balance of oxygen supply and demand may, independently or in combination, supply one explanation as to how marijuana increases MI risk.

"Some marijuana-associated infarctions may be caused by a myocardial oxygen supply that is inadequate to cope with the increased oxygen demands that occur as a result of smoking marijuana,"

There! How's that for the facts.

tobacco, drinking, reefer...they are all social vices. marijuana and crack are just not federally regulated social vices. none-the-less, they are all social vices and can be led by and lead to poor decisions.

Is pot bad for you? Sure, just like highly caffienated, sugary carbonated beverages are bad for you, jsut like red meat is bad for you, just like Jack Daniel's is bad for you.

The effects of it (or anything else) varies in magnitude to different people.

I say if you can take of your shit (family life, work, etc.) then you should be allowed to do whatever the fuck you want in your private life. Pot, crack, smack, whatever.

Plus people who are going to do drugs are going to do drugs, plain and simple.

Disclousure:

I used to smoke more than my share of pot in college, when I graduated and started working, I pretty much quit. Not because I felt I needed to, but simply because I was focused on work, doing other things besides "hanging out." Now, I smoke sometimes, but mostly on weekends or holidays, kind of like when people have a beer or wine, or whatever.

bravo! these are my feelings exactly!

the disclousure sounds like me, only on weekends. my family and work (to support my family) allways comes first!

This is great!! I am someone who used to smoke like two or three times a day!! And I have to paraphrase Denis Leary,

"Pot smoking doesn't lead to other drugs, it leads to fucking carpentry!!"

I have NEVER heard of anyone getting into a fight when high. The only thing I ever wanted to do when high was play video games, and eat food. The only reason I quit was for the drug test that I had to take for work.

I think smoking it is bad for you, that is why I used it in cooking and when I made tea. The occasional Bong Hit is nice. :-)

I wrote some of my best code when stoned out of my head!! I try to to that straight, I get bored, and quit doing it after 20 mins.

I know I probably added NOTHING of value to this thread, just my opinion...

And of course, this link!!! http://www.top20fun.com/funny_jokes/908.html
