I don't understand what your stance is here. What exactly are you asking? Those who don't use drugs or alcohol call themselves straightedge, or as I prefer, nerds.
Why do they have a name for it? Or some so called 'hardcore' image all about it? What ever happened to just being a normal person who doesn't want to do drugs because they want to keep their job? Do they think they're better than everyone else?

I think it's more of a personal thing. I'm sure I could away with a massive substance abuse issue and keep up my employment and school, but I don't want to be the kind of person who makes those poor decisions. I don't think being "straightedge" is an exclusive title, like being a member of the 1.6pete fanclub (just kidding), but rather a personal appreciative title, like being dry or abstinent.
I just don't want to be the kind of person who gets messed up, that's all.

Okay, since I don't drink (I enjoy keeping all my braincells, my liver, etc) don't use drugs (won't go into the effects of those on the body) I am considered a nerd. NICE!
I call it, "I have better things to spend my money on right now". I agree with Adam. (YES ADAM, that's what I said ) Why the hell do we have to have a name for everything.
I dont drink or do drugs and I dont call myself anything but christian. no need for any other kind of label. never even heard the term "straightedge" around here.
