Unless you guys can talk me out of it, I'm going to buy a 2001 VW Jetta VR6 on my lunch break tomorrow! V6, 5 spd, 59k, asking 10,900. The thing is gorgeous. 4 wheel discs, black leather interior, fire engine red outside, alloys, power sunroof, heated seats...
Should I do it???

Considering all this: "Engine oil leak, tranny oil leak, ghetto rigged exhaust, timing chain noise, on/off switch for a clutch, 2 patched gas leaks, & 3 bondo'd holes in body", I would say it's a good idea for [i]any]/i] new car.
good choice, with the VR6's my friends own i would also consider buying on if i had the money. VW's last a long time.
Dont listen to any of the noobs in here telling you the VW's are shit. Some have had problems, like seth for instance. But many of the VW owners i know love them to death
You can probably talk him down a bit on the asking price, but i would expect to pay around 9-10K on a car like that

I think the more rational goal here should to get us to CONVINCE you to buy it.

That generation of Jettas are heavy and slow, even with the VR6. Its a nice car, like most VWs, well appointed, sporty suspension, What the hell, get what you like.
I had a VW years ago, a vw fox, which was a bottom-rung model but was very well apointed to its competitors and had a nice tight suspension, and decent power. Times have changed though. Performance to dollar though, a Nissan may be a better choice, but they won't be as "nice"
Bought it. 10 grand with new tires and brakes. Used car dealership on the corner of Millersport and North French. Forgot the name, seems like a decent place though. Family business since 1958. I was dealing with the owner's son. Haha driving the thing back to back with my Sentra makes the VR6 feel like a rocket. Haha as for getting more chicks, my fiance (got engaged right before Christmas ) might not like that. It'd be nice to get looks though!

I drove my Mom's fully-loaded '02 Jetta for about 30 miles tonight and have no complaints. In fact, the heated seats felt quite good on the pulled muscle in my back.
a buddy of mine used to have a jetta (the boxier style? idk what year) and just bought a corrado (super charged 4). he sold the jetta to his dad. he bought it off of a forum just like this and he has racing buckets, stock but insain!, the guy before him didnt take out his amps so he has 2 kenwood amps in the back but idk what they are because it was dark. it also came with 15in. BBS wheels they are the mesh style and beautiful! im getting a ride in it tonight, we only had time to ride in mine and he was impressed for a 1.6L with no mods but VW makes very nice cars off the lot. sporty suspention, and they have the best stock wheels of any car imo
I hate my girlfriends Jetta (2002). It's the 1.8t. What a piece of shit.
