that's hardly even a tsunami - and that was a MILD hit. Some of those waves are several stories tall moving hundreds of miles an hour. What's the death toll now, last i checked it was well over 40,000 dead and god knows how many missing. Water came within a mile of my grandmother's house.... scary shit.

From what I heard though, some of the governments actaully had a couple hours advanced notice. I wonder why nobody was alerted and told to goto higher ground.

Deathcount is at 59,000... with over 400,000 still missing(safe to presume most are dead... doubt many can stay afloat out in sea this long.)

And even if they had advanced notice, you have to realise that seimic detection is faulty at best. It is something like 9 out of every 10 warnings are false alarms, so even if they had alerted the populace, I don't think they would have fathomed the tsuami would be this severe.

God bless the survivors, and Rest in Peace for the casaulties

This is a terrible tragedy.

Not even advanced notice of an earthquake, but it takes time for a tsunami to reach the shore. If an underwater quake is detected, there is pretty high chance of tsunami, and even if you are 600 miles away ther's still and hour's warning.

yeah on my yahoo homepage, i saw that the death toll is up to 77,000. Thats so horrible. Right now the war in Iraq seems like nothing compared to this horrible disaster..
