dremel broke?

So I was cutting some metal with my new re-enforced cutting discs and the dremel just stopped. I thought I blew a fuse, but nope. It turns freely, but the motor won't do anything. I turned it all the way up and tured it with my hand and the motor kinda kicked over, but it sounded like crap, then it just stopped again.

Now, there's a little blue screw on the side of the dremel with a spring on the inside, is this a part that needs to be replaced, I have no idea what's wrong with it.

You might have burned the motor. What were you trying to cut?

nevermind, I fixed it. I was cutting the headlight brackets out of my maxima to get the new headlights in.

I don't really understand what these are for, but there are 2 blue plastic covers on either side of the dremel, by the motor. I unscrewed each side, then took the springs out. I have no idea what it is, but there are these little rectangular pieces inside by the motor and one was jammed in place. I popped it out and put it back in and voila, it works like it did before.

Those little rectangular pieces are what closes the circuit, creating the magnetic field that helps the stator to spin. the springs help it to keep contact with the stator as it rotates by. Your thingie broke. Good thing you can fix your thingie.

Those are the graphite(sp?) brushes, we call them "carbones" almost all heavy duty electric engine got them: Drills, Grinders, etc. Dremel got the easiest changing ones.

well, I'm glad I now know what they are, I still don't quite understand what they do. I know electronics to some extent and I took physics 2 (study of electric and magtnetic fields) but I'm still not 100% sure where these "carbones" come into play. LOL

I'm not going into electrical engineering anyway, but I guess it's useful to know.

they essentially give the motor more torque. brushless motors are very easy to bog down/stall (like what's in fans), but brush motors are much harder to stall (which is why they are in power tools)---yet they break easier

Did you trying the hitting method? lol. Mine did that a few weeks ago. I was using it for a while and the motor starting getting real hot and then just stopped. I let it sit for a bit a and cool and that didn't help and then took those blue screws out and put them back in and still nothing. Then I got ticked and gave it a swift hit and voila. It ran like new the rest of the night. lol.
